Environmental Benefits

Bamboo is a viable substitute for many of our uses of trees and a solution to deforestation because it

• is renewable as a perennial grass (no need for replanting!)

• has a tensile strength stronger than steel

• grows up to three feet a day

Bamboo is eco-friendly with little need for pesticides or fertilizers due to natural antifungal and antibacterial properties.

Bamboo decreases the carbon footprint by releasing 35% more oxygen while absorbing up to five times more carbon dioxide than the equivalent acres of non-renewable trees.

Economic Value

Demand for bamboo is reflected in its existing popularity as a food and its increasing utility in various forms, including building materials, paper products, fabrics, and biochar.

In 2022, the U.S. imported more than $23 million of bamboo while the global sales of bamboo shoots alone reached $375 million. Additionally, bamboo’s potential to be used in place of plastic and other synthetic materials has benefits to both the environment and the economy.

Abundant Life Bamboo strives to better steward the world and its resources through domestic bamboo farming by

• eliminating dependence on foreign countries while diminishing import costs, thus strengthening the U.S. economy;
